Anycast DNS: Get Global Redundancy and Faster DNS for Your Domain

What Is Anycast DNS?

Regular DNS works like this: your domain points to one or two nameservers at a specific location. If that location goes down — or if the user is on the other side of the globe — things get slow or stop working entirely.

Anycast DNS solves this by advertising the same IP address from multiple locations around the world simultaneously. When a user queries your domain, the nearest node responds automatically — without you having to configure anything.

Why Does DNS Speed Matter?

  • Every page load starts with a DNS lookup — faster DNS = faster site
  • Google uses page load time as a ranking factor (Core Web Vitals)
  • If your DNS goes down, your site, email, and APIs all disappear — regardless of whether the server is alive
  • DNS attacks (DDoS against nameservers) are extremely common — anycast spreads the load

No-Ack’s Anycast DNS Infrastructure

No-Ack Hosting operates a global anycast DNS network with 11 nodes across 5 continents:

All nodes run BIND 9 with BIRD BGP and advertise the same prefix (31.22.94.0/24) via AS30893. This means traffic is automatically routed to the nearest node based on BGP topology.

What Does This Mean for You?

  • Faster DNS responses — your visitor in Tokyo gets an answer from Tokyo, not from Stockholm
  • Built-in DDoS protection — an attack on your DNS is spread across 11 nodes instead of hitting a single one
  • Automatic failover — if a node goes down, traffic is routed to the next nearest one, fully automatic via BGP
  • No extra cost — anycast DNS is included for No-Ack customers
